Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key result
Type:
log Koc
Value:
> 5.67
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Remarks:
No observations were made which might give doubts concerning the validity of the study outcome.
Conclusions:
The log Koc of the test item was stated as > 5.67.
Executive summary:

The study used as source investigated the adsorption coefficient on soil and sewage sludge of 1,2,4 -Benzenetricarboxylic acid, decyl octyl ester according to OECD Guideline for the Testing of Chemicals No. 121 and EU-Method C.19. As the retention time of the test item lies outside the range of the method and the range of the reference items, the log Koc of the test item was stated as > 5.67. Results of the source compound were considered applicable to the target compound. Justification and applicability of the read-across approach (structural analogue) is outlined in the read-across report in section 13 or find a link in cross-reference “assessment report”.

Description of key information

The derived log Koc (HPLC method) was > 5.67

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No adsorption / desorption data for the submission substance is available. However adequate and reliable data for structural anologues (i.e. C8TM, for read-across justification please see read-across report in section 13) are reported below.

A reliable study on adsorption / desorption according to OECD 121 is available (LAUS, 2009, RL1, analogue substance: 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters, C8C10TM, CAS no. 90218-76-1). The HPLC screening method was applied, and the study was conducted in compliance with GLP. The result of the test led to an indicative log Koc (i.e., log Koc > 5.67), because the test substance had a log Koc above the all reference substances.

In detail, after several preliminary tests, a saturated solution of the test substance was injected. The corresponding chromatogram showed a retention time, which was higher than the retention time of the reference substance with the highest log Koc, i.e. DDT (log Koc 5.67), and therefore the log Koc of the test substance lay outside the range of the method. In order to ascertain that the retention time of the test substance was higher than the retention time of DDT, the retention times of DDT and of the test item were determined three times.

In conclusion, the log Koc of the test substance was determined as > 5.67 (analogue substance: C8C10TM).
