Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

EC50 (3h, respiratory inhibition) > 100 mg/L (activated sludge)
EC0 (30 min, oxygen consumption) > 1000 mg/L (Pseudomonas putida)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of a sodium metasilicate solution has been determined in an activated sludge respiratory inhibition test in compliance with OECD 203 (Calmels 1994). The 3 h EC50 was > 100 mg/L. In a further study complying with DIN 38412 -27, the toxicity to Pseudomonas putida was tested in an oxygen consumption inhibition test. Concentrations of a sodium metasilicate solution of up to 1000 mg/L did not cause toxic effects and thus the EC0 was determined to be >1000 mg/L (Richterich and Muehlberg 2001).
