Description of key information

The chosen key study is of reliabity 2 (Hodson et al. 1984) and can be summarized as followed: 
In a 96-h acute toxicity study, Oncorhynchus mykiss were exposed to PMP concentrations under flow through conditions. The 96-h LC50 was 28.5 mg a.i./L. This toxicity study satisfied the guideline requirement for fish toxicity study (OECD 203 and EU method C1), it has been selected as key study because the LC50 is the lowest among the other values.

One other study has been chosen as supporting data:

Geiger et al, 1985 (reliability 2): in a 96-h acute toxicity study, Fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) were exposed to PMP at nominal and measured (corrected average measured concentrations indicated in parenthesis) concentrations of 0 (control), 69.6 (79), 107 (114), 164 (154), 253 (225) and 389 (376) mg/L under flow through conditions. The 96-h LC50 was 110 mg/L. This toxicity study satisfies the guideline requirement for acute fish toxicity study.

Based on the results of these studies, PMP would be considered as harmful to fish.
