Description of key information

The substance hydrolyses to (2,4,4 -trimethylpentyl)silanetriol and ethanol with a hydrolysis half-life of greater than 24 hours but less than 48 hours. Therefore, the environmental hazard assessment for the aquatic compartment, including waste water treatment plant, is based on the properties of the parent substance in accordance with REACH guidance for Chemical Safety Assessment. The environmental hazard assessment for the sediment and soil compartments will be based on the properties of the silanol hydrolysis product, as the hydrolysis rate for the parent substance is between 12 and 48 hours, and on that time scale hydrolysis will have occurred.

(2,4,4 -Trimethylpentyl)silanetriol is the final product of hydrolysis reactions under the normal range of conditions of pH and temperature. However, other biotic or abiotic reactions may proceed over longer time-scales in the environment.
