Description of key information

Toxicity to Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata in an Algal Growth Inhibition Test

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
2.72 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1.46 mg/L

Additional information

The influence of the test material on the growth of the freshwater green algaePseudokirchneriella subcapitatawas assessed in a static dose-response test. The 72-hour EyC50was calculated to be1.68 mg test item/L, and the 72-hour ErC50value was calculated to be>2.72 mg test item/L. The 72-hour EyC50was calculated to be1.68 mg test item/L, and the 72-hour ErC10value was calculated to be 1.46 mg test item/L

The 72-hour NOEyC was determined to be0.368 mg test item/L and the associated 72-hour LOEyC was0.636 mg test item/L. The 72-hour NOErC was determined to be0.368 mg test item/L and the associated 72-hour LOErC was0.638 mg test item/L. This study showed that the ErC50value is above the highest achievable mean concentration in the test medium.
