Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A study was conducted similar to OECD 107 to determine the partition coefficient of propargyl alcohol. Using the flask method the partition coefficient was determined to be -0.35 at 25°C. Furthermore a literature review was conducted. Schultz, TW and Tichy (Structure-Toxicity Relationships for unsaturated alcohols to Tetrahymena pyriformis: C5 and C6 analogs and Primary Propargylic Alcohols. Bull. Environ. Contam. Toxicol. Vol 51, pp 681 - 688) reported the partition coefficient to be -0,33 and Veith, GD et al. ( The toxicity of acetylenic alcohols to the fathead minnow, Pimephales promelas: narcosis and proelectrophile activation. Xenobiotica Vol 19, pp 555 - 565) reported the partition coefficient to be -0.37.

The study and the literature values reported the partition coefficient to be in the same range.

The value from the BASF study 103758/01 was chosen as key value for the partition coefficient.
