Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Vanadium is not pyrophoric.

Vanadium does not emit flammable gases in contact with water.

Vanadium if produced in powder form is only produced as ferrovanadium. A representative ferrovanadium (FeV80) powder (D50=151.56 μm) could not be ignited with a flame in a test according to EU-Method A.10. It is concluded that vanadium metal powder with a particle size above 0.15 mm is non-flammable. Therefore massive vanadium metal is considered non-flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Vanadium if produced in powder form is only produced as ferrovanadium. A representative ferrovanadium (FeV80) powder (D50=54.8 μm) could not be ignited with a flame in a test according to EU-Method A.10. It is concluded that vanadium metal powder with a particle size above 0.05 mm is non-flammable. Therefore massive vanadium metal is considered non-flammable.

The flammable properties of pure vanadium metal powder (if produced) with a smaller particle size need to be assessed on an individual, company-specific basis.
