Additional information

According to Regulation (EC) No.1907/2006, Annex XI, Section 1, the testing regime may be adapted because testing does not appear scientifically necessary. Data exists on the melting point of sodium cyanide, equal to 561.7 degrees C. According to Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, this test method on solids is intended as a preliminary screening test on self-heating properties which can lead to self-ignition. The test involves heating the solid substance to a temperature of 400 degrees C in an oven. The melting point of NaCN is higher than 400 degrees C, indicating that self-heating up to 400 degrees C does not occur. This test is not scientifically justified.
