Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Atmospheric half-life approximately 1.7 days (40 hrs.), assuming OH concentration of 500,000 molecules/cm3 and 24 hr photoday

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in air:
1.7 d

Additional information

The reaction of diphenyl ether with OH radical was measured in the laboratory, giving an experimental second-order rate constant which can be used to predict half-life in the atmosphere. Diphenyl ether is rapidly degraded in the atmosphere by reaction with photochemically-generated hydroxyl radicals. By virtue of this reaction and associated half-life (1.7 days), the substance is not persistent in air, and not expected to exhibit long-range atmospheric transport.
