Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There are valid test data on 2-EHMA available for short –term toxicity to fish, short-term and long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates as well as algae toxicity data.

Concerning long-term toxicity data to fish the situation is as follows:

For 2-EHMA the two most sensitive trophic levels – fish and invertebrates – indicate almost identical ecotoxicity. From the bioaccumulation study there is an additional piece of information – fish metabolise 2-EHMA very fast so that it disappears rapidly from the test vessel and also the depuration after the end of exposure takes place within a few hours. This is directly comparable to what is observed in mammalian systems which share many common pathways and processes. Hence, bioaccumulation and a significantly lower chronic NOAEC is not expected. In conclusion, the current PNEC is likely to provide a more conservative margin of safety and further testing is unlikely to provide a higher level of protection. For the sake of animal welfare, further testing in vertebrates is not necessary and not justified.
