Description of key information

The substance is harmful for aquatic algae

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
2.33 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.9 mg/L

Additional information

Two studies in toxicity of HDDA to aquatic algae are available. As Key study, an EC50 (72h) of 2.33 mg/L and NOEC of 0.9 mg/L was determined in a GLP study, 72 -hour static test with Selenastrum capricornutum following OECD 201 [Environment Agency Japan 1999]. Supportingly, in a non-GLP, 72-hour static test with the green alga Scenedesmus subspicatus according to a national standard method (DIN 38412 L9), the algae toxicity of HDDA was studied. Statistical evaluation of the endpoint growth rate revealed an EC50 (72h) of 1.5 mg/L, a definitive NOEC could not be established in this study, as effects > 30% were still observed at the lowest test concentration of 0.5 mg/L
