The photolytical half-life of bis(2 -ethylhexyl) maleinate is about 1.1 days under average conditions of the northern hemisphere. For assessing the abiotic degradation in the aquatic environment, read-across data were taken from another diester of maleic acid, resulting in a hydrolytical half-life of about 96 hours under environmental conditions, i.e. a pH of 7 and 20°C. Furthermore, the results of the hydrolysis study indicate that the hydrolytical rate constant increases with increasing pH.
