Description of key information

Fish acute toxicity was examined in a study in accordance with OECD TG 203 and GLP under semi-static conditions. Groups of seven juvenile fish were exposed to the substance prepared at nominal concentrations of 0.0625, 0.125, 0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 mg/l. The measured concentrations of the substance ranged between 82 and 103% of their nominal values in samples of freshly prepared media. In samples of expired (24-hours old) media, the measured concentrations had decreased to between 58 and 88% of their starting values, giving overall measured concentrations of 0.0573, 0.0943, 0.182, 0.380 and 0.784 mg/l. The decrease in the measured concentration between renewals was attributed to uptake/adsorption by the fish based on the physico-chemical properties of the test substance (log Kow 5.3 to 5.8). Observations of the fish were made after approximately 2, 4, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours of exposure. After 96 hours, the highest measured concentration at which no significant mortality had occurred was 0.380 mg/l and at the highest tested concentration (measured, 0.784 mg/l) 71% mortality was observed. Sub-lethal, treatment-related effects were also exhibited at 0.784 mg/l. The 96h-LC50 of the test was 0.630 mg/L (95% confidence limits of 0.380 - 2.39 mg/l) based on geometric means of the concentrations.
