Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2003-12-16 - 2004-01-21 (experimental phase)
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN RTDG, Manual of Tests and Criteria, ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.2, 1995, Test N1, Burning rate test
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
draft along the train of material; pile dimensions oversized
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The full burning rate test was performed.
GLP compliance:
no
Remarks:
However the study was performed in a test facility, which has been certified to be in compliance with the principles of GLP.
Key result
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Burning time:
90 s
Remarks on result:
other: for 100 mm at 20°C, air flow 0.5 m/s

The material exhibited combustion properties in the test. The combustion propagated 100 mm by melting and burning with flames in a time of 90 s.

Burning Class at 20 ºC: 5 (slow propagation with flame)

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The deviations from the guideline would likely overestimate the burning rate. The result of not readily combustible is thus considered to be reliable.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1991-08-21 - 1991-08-21 (experimental phase)
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
according to Directive 84/449, A.10
Ignition source: hot platinum wire, approx. temperature 1000 °C.
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
other: No burning time could be determined since the (molten) substance did not sustain a flame.

Preliminary flammability test (40 mm pile): Ignition with a hot platinum wire (1000°C) results in melting of the solid substance. The molten substance does not sustain a flame. For this reason the main test (250 mm pile) could not be performed and the burning time for 100 mm could not be determined.

Remark of the registrant: Based on experience in the handling and use of the solid substance, it does not ignite spontaneously after coming into contact with air at room temperature (ca. 20°C).

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The study is considered to be adequate and reliable.
Executive summary:

Ignition with a hot platinum wire (1000°C) results in melting of the solid substance. The molten substance does not sustain a flame.

Thus the substance is not highly flammable.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
other:

Description of key information

Not pyrophoric (based on chemical structure)

Not flammable in contact with water (based on chemical structure)

Not highly flammable (solids, Schürch, A.10)

Not readily flammable (solids, Bailey, UN TGD N.1)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Inspection of the chemical structure, and experience in the handling and use of the substance, has indicated no properties associated with flammability on contact with water or pyrophoricity. This conclusion is carried forward for use in risk assessment, classification and labelling.

The substance failed to sustain a flame in one flammability of solids test. In another test the substance exhibited combustion properties, but with slow propagation. Both tests are considered to be adequate, reliable and relevant. Both support the conclusion "the substance is not readily combustible", which is carried forward for use in risk assessment, classification and labelling.

Justification for classification or non-classification

This substance does not meet the criteria for classification under Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, Annex I, Part 2, 2.7. The available data are considered reliable and suitable for classification.
