Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Nominal and measured concentrations:
nominal concentrations: 12, 37, I1 1, 333, 1000 ppm w/v
Details on test conditions:
Type: aquatic
Test, reference and control vessels are established with serial
concentrations of test substances. Solutions are prepared in water
and inoculated with sewage at 40% volume and fed with nutrient.
Test vessels are aerated over a 3 hour period, during which the
respiration rate of microbial metabolism is measured by oxygen
uptake at contact periods of 30 minutes and 3 hours.
Reference substance (positive control):
yes
Remarks:
3,5-dichlorophenol at concentrations of 1.2, 3.7, 11, 33 and 100 ppm w/v

Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
inhibition of total respiration
Results with reference substance (positive control):
EC50 5.6 to 14.5 mg/L

The maximum concentration of the test material that proved
without inhibition was 111 ppm.  The 30-minute EC50 was
estimated as 630 ppm. The EC50 of 3,5-dichlorophenol was
estimated as 14.5 ppm (CI= 8.3-25.3).

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The mean median inhibitory concentration of Surfynol 104 Surfactant to activated sludge respiration was in the range of 680 to 840 ppm. Because the limits of sample solubility may have been reached or exceeded at test temperature, the lower EC 50 may be more reliable.
The median inhibitory concentration of the reference toxicant, 3,5-dichlorophenol was found to be in the range of 5.6 to 14.5 ppm. This level met the criterion for test validity in accordance with the OECD guideline (3 hour EC50 from 5-30 mg/L).
