In a key study according to the slightly modified OECD (301 D), EU and ISO test guidelines under GLP (closed bottle test) Phosflex 71B was found to be readily biodegradable (61% degradation in 28 days) (Van Ginkel 2006).

In a river die-away study the half-life of S-154 in Mississippi river water was found to be 1 day at 24 ºC for t-butylphenyldiphenyl phosphate (TBPDPP), whereas it was 7 days for di(t-butylphenyl) phenyl phosphate (DTBPPP) (Saeger et al 1981).
