Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
read-across based on grouping of substances (category approach)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
March-May 2010
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Justification for type of information:
This IUCLID for dimethyl adipate is compiled using data from the substance itself, a structurally related compound (dimethyl glutarate) and a mixture of dibasic esters (dimethyl adipate, succinate and glutarate). The phys-chem properties of each of these substances are similar and the document attached justifies why data on the category members can be used to support the data gaps for dimethyl adipate.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Water solubility:
4 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
3.5
Conclusions:
Interpretation of results (migrated information): soluble (1000-10000 mg/L)
The water solubility of dimethyl adipate is 4.0 g/L at 20°C.
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
2012
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Dimethyl adipate aliquots (0.5 g) were added progressively to 100 water at a constant temperature of 20 °C; the solution was stirred several minutes between each addition and the turbidity of the solution was evaluated visually.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: visual turbidimetry
Water solubility:
> 25 - <= 30 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: The pH of the substance was not measured, but we know by experience that the pH of dimethyl adipate is slightly basic and for a non ionizable substance like this one, the pH is not an important factor.
