Additional information

In an OECD guideline closed bottle ready biodegradation test, 85% degradation was seen after 28 days when using a micro-organisms seed mixture of synthetic sewage micro-organisms and soil. This and other available studies suggest that there can be a significant time lag before degradation commences. This particular study suggested that the 10 day window was not met, although the number of sampling points was not sufficient for a definitive assessment. However, a supporting closed bottle study on a mixture containing predominantly (>70%) 2 -(2 -(2 -butoxyethoxy)ethoxy)ethanol showed 76% degradation after 28 days and met the 10 day window, although the same lag before degradation commenced was observed. The substance is readily biodegradable and meets the 10 day window.
