Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Hydrolysis:

According to column 2 of REACH annex VIII, study does not need to be conducted, since Cyclopentanone is readily biodegradable (see section 5.2.1).

Biodegradation: see the specific endpoint summary.

Seyfried ( 2007) was selected as key study, since conducted according to standardised guidelines (OECD 301F) and GLP. In this study,Cyclopentanone was investigated for its ready biodegradability in a manometric respirometry test over 28 days. At 28-day exposure period, the mean biodegradation of Cyclopentanone amounted to 102%. The pass level for ready biodegradability, i.e. biodegradation of at least 60% of the ThOD in a 10-day window within the 28-day period of the test, was reached. Consequently, Cyclopentanone was found to be completely biodegradable under the test conditions within 28 days.

In the other study (Pitter, 1976), it was concluded that Cyclopentanone was inherently biodegradable.

As Cyclopentanone is readily biodegradable, studies for biodegradation in water and sediment, and biodegradation in soil do not need to be conducted according to column 2 of REACH Annex IX.

Bioaccumulation:

According to column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the study does not need to be conducted, because cyclopentanone has a low potential of bioaccumulation, with a log P of 0.7 at 25°C and pH=7.

Adorption/Desorption:

According to column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, the study does not need to be conducted, because the substance has a low potential of bioaccumulation (log kow= 0.7 at 25°C and pH7), and it is expected to have a low potential of adsorption.
