In view of the n-octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow = 3.433) of 1,2 -dichlorobenzene, bioaccumulation is to be expected. A study conducted according to a method similar to OECD Guideline 305C resulted in a maximum BCF of 260 in terms of the whole organism. Based on this measured BCF, 1,2-dichlorobenzene has only a low potential for bioaccumulation and does not meet the criterion on bioaccumulation in the PBT assessment.

Further publications are available for fish, invertebrates, algae and cyanobacteria. The highest BCF in terms of lipid content was found in the Blue crab to be 28840. For the terrestrial foodchain, a BCF of 29.6 was calculated for earthworms.

However, the maximum BCF value for whole fish of 260 has been selected as the key value for bioaccumulation in the aquatic environment.
