Description of key information

It is proposed that testing on biodegradation in soil is not required for n-butylchloride.

Additional information

Testing on biodegradation in soil is not required since exposure of soils with the test substance is unlikely. The substance 1-chlorobutane is inherently biodegradable, photochemically degraded in water and air and highly volatile with low adsorption potential to soils (log Kow < 3).

Degradation from soils by bacterially induced hydrolysis was shown for several Mycobacterium strains (Jesenska et al. 2000).
