Polypropoxylated p-nonylphenol-formaldehyde-diethanolamine, Mannich base is a yellow brown, viscous liquid. The melting point is between 3-6°C at ca. 101.3 kPa and the substance decomposes at 230 °C, before boiling (Chilworth, 2012). The density is 1.035 g/cm3 at 20 °C, the relative density is 1.035, the vapour pressure is 61.5 Pa at 20 °C, the log Kow ranges from 1.72 to 2.20 at 25 °C (Chilworth, 2012), the viscosity is 32700 mPa·s (dynamic) at 20°C (Oltchim, 2011) and the water solubility is 14.24 g/L at 20 °C (Oltchim, 2011). The surface tension is 42.64 mN/m at 20 °C and a concentration of 1.15 g/L in water. The substance is therefore considered to be surface active (Oltchim, 2011). The flash point is 184 ºC at 101.3 kPa (Saybolt, 2011) and the self-ignition temperature is 338 °C at 101.3 kPa (Chilworth, 2012). The substance is not expected to be flammable or to have explosive and oxidising properties. As the stability the substanceis not considered to be critical, the solubility in organic solvents and the identity of relevant degradation products do not need to be determined. The dissociation constant of polypropoxylated p-nonylphenol-formaldehyde-diethanolamine, Mannich base is 7.70 ± 0.5 (Chilworth, 2012). Determination of the granulometry does not need to be conducted as the substance is marketed or used in a non-solid form.
