Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

Ready biodegradability of 2-methoxyethyl acrylate was investigated in one study (MITI, 1999) according to OECD guideline 301 C under GLP conditions. The applied inoculum was a mixture of activated sludge from 4 sewage treatment plants, freshwater from 3 rivers and 1 lake, and marine water and marine sediment from 2 bays in and around Japan. 100 mg substance per litre were incubated for 28 days. Based on O2 consumption, DOC removal and test material analysis, 2- methoxyethyl acrylate reached 83, 95 and 100% degradation, respectively. Hence, the substance can be considered as readily biodegradable according to the OECD requirements.
