Tert-butyl peroxyisobutyrate (TBPIN) has explosive properties because it is classified as Organic Peroxide Type B (reference CLP regulations 2.15.1.2, 2.15.2.2 and UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, 17th revised edition, Section 2.5.3.2.4). See also ECHA guidance on the application of the CLP criteria, section 2.14 The classification of organic peroxides into one of the seven categories of “Types A to G” is given in decision logic Figure 2.15.1 of CLP, based on the test series A to H, as described in the Part II of the UN-MTC. Justification for classification or non-classification
According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) TBPIB is classified as Organic Peroxide Type B - H241: heating may cause a fire or explosion.
