Acute immobilisation to Daphnia magna, algal growth inhibition to unicellular freshwater green alga and acute toxicity to fish have been investigated.

 

In Daphnia no effects were observed at a concentration of 100 mg/L. In fish the LC50 was estimated to be 359 mg/L. In algae, the substance was found to inhibit growth after 72 hours exposure. The EC50 values for inhibition of specific growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) were >100mg/L. EC10 values for inhibition of specific growth rate (ErC50) was 92.6 mg/L and yield (EyC50) was 74.7mg/L.NOEC was determined to be 66.7 mg/L. The test substance rapidly hydrolyses in water yielding the di-acid degradation product that significantly affected pH. A limit test conducted at a concentration of 100 mg/L and with adjustment of pH had no significant effects on growth of the algae. In accordance with ECHA guidance oninformation requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b: Endpoint specific guidance, the ErC50 endpoint was used in DNEL derivation. This is because use of values based on biomass cannot be applied to an analysis of results from a system in exponential growth without logarithmic transformation.

 

Toxicity to microorganisms has been investigated in an activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD test methods. The substance caused a concentration related inhibition ranging from 11% at 46.7 mg/L to 98% at 2000 mg/L. The EC50 was 311.82 mg/L while the EC10 was 59.1 mg/L. A concentration of 13.3 mg/L caused no significantly different effects relative to untreated controls and was regarded as the NOEC.
