Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Dibutylether was not readily biodegradable in OECD 301 series tests.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

Limited biodegradation of dibutylether (<5% in 28 days) was observed in OECD 301 ready biodegradation tests. Tests conducted with enrichment cultures of bacteria isolated from activated sludge demonstrated that the bacteria could use dibutylether as a sole carbon source during biodegradation. No biodegradation was observed under anaerobic conditions in samples of groundwater and sediments.
