Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

According to REACH Annex VIII section 9.1.4 column 2, the " study does not need to be conducted if there are mitigating factors indicating that microbial toxicity is unlikely to occur, for instance the substance is highly insoluble in water or the substance is found to be readily biodegradable and the applied test concentrations are in the range of concentrations that can be expected in the influent of a sewage treatment plant."

The registered substance is sparingly soluble (< 1 mg/l) and biodegradable and hence this test is not needed.

The toxicity of the similar substance Sulfosuccinate of Lanolin Alcohol to activated sludge was assessed in a respiration inhibition study according to EU Commission Directive EC 440/2008, C.11.

Since in the preliminary test any significant effect was shown at the highest tested concentration of active ingredient, the final test was carried out at the only nominal active ingredient concentration of 1800.0 mg/L, corresponding to 6000.0 mg/L as test item.

In addition two untreated negative controls were incubated under the same conditions.

Based on the results, the EC50 value for Sulfosuccinate of Lanolin Alcohol was assessed to be higher than 1800.0 mg/L as active ingredient, corresponding to 6000.0 mg/L of test item and the NOEC value was calculated as equal to the nominal active ingredient concentration of 1800.0 mg/L, corresponding to 6000.0 mg/L as test item.
