Description of key information

The substance is considered as not bioaccumulative. It is proposed to use a BCF of 156.3 L/kg in the chemical safety assessment as this was the maximum predicted BCF.

Additional information

For the test substance, a log Kow of 3.83 (see section 4.7 of the IUCLID dataset) was determined experimentally. Therewith the log Kow is below the trigger value of 4 (GHS) for bioaccumulation. It is generally assumed that non-ionised organic substances with a log Kow below 4 (GHS) are not significantly bioaccumulative (R.7.10.5). Furthermore, the measured log Kow of 3.83 is clearly below the B screening criterion of log Kow ≤ 4.5 for the PBT discussion.

To support this result, the bioaccumulation factor (BCF) for fish was calculated using a QSAR based software approach. The QSAR model used by Episuite (Epiweb 4.1, BCFBAF program v3.01) is based on correlations between BCF and chemical hydrophobicity (as modelled by log Kow). Episuite BCFBAF calculated a BCF value of 156 L/kg body weight (based on log Kow 3.83). This value is below the cut-off value of 2000 L/kg triggering classification of substances as bioaccumulative.

Hence, based on these results, it is concluded that the B criterion is not met and the substance is not considered as bioaccumulative.
