Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
activated sludge respiration inhibition testing
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Justification for type of information:
Please refer to Read Across Statement attached in Section 13
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source
Reference substance (positive control):
yes
Remarks:
benzoic acid, sodium salt
Duration:
28 d
Dose descriptor:
other: oxygen consumption
Effect conc.:
30.6 other: % of ThOD
Nominal / measured:
meas. (not specified)
Conc. based on:
other: oxygen elektrode
Basis for effect:
inhibition of total respiration
Remarks:
respiration rate
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
In biodegradation test OECD 301 D the oxygen consumption corresponded to 30.6% of the ThOD after 14 days in the toxicity control. Therefore the tested substance can be considered not inhibitory to the inoculum according to this test guideline
Remark: The test solution contains NaOH due to the production method.

Due to the similarity of the target substance, EP1-Na, and the source substance, IBP1-Na, the result of this study is assessed to be adequate in order to fulfil the requirements of REACH. The read-across approach is further described in the document “Justification of read across from CAS No 53378-51-1 IBP1-Na (source) to CAS No 3338-24-7, EP1-Na (target)” attached in “Point 13 Assessment reports”.
Executive summary:

The test was performed according to the OECD guideline 301D under GLP compliance. The test was done on domestic sewage for 28days. The oxygen consumption corresponded to 30.6% of the ThOD after 14 days in the toxicity control. Therefore the tested substance can be considered not inhibitory to the inoculum

Description of key information

Read-across: OECD 301 D, 28 days, domestic sewage: oxygen consumption corresponded to 30.6% of the ThOD after 14 days in the toxicity control. Therefore the tested substance can be considered not inhibitory to the inoculum.
