Additional information

The chronic toxicity of tetramethylthiuram disulfide (CAS No. 137-26-8) to fish species was investigated in one key and one supporting study.

The key study (2008) was conducted according to the OECD Guideline No. 210, under GLP conditions. Fish embryos and, later on, larvae were exposed for 33 days (5 days hatch and 28 days post-hatch period) to control, solvent control, 0.56, 1.1, 2.3, 4.5 and 9.0 µg a.i./L 14C-thiram under a flow-through water regime. Tetramethylthiuram disulfide (CAS No. 137-26-8) water concentrations were analyzed weekly. The mean measured concentrations represented 100 – 104% of nominal concentrations. Hatching success of fish embryos in the treatment groups did not differ from that in the controls. However, significant effects were observed in larval survival and growth, resulting in a NOEC (33 d) of 4.6 µg a.i./L (meas. arith. mean) for both endpoints.

The results from the supporting study (2001), conducted with the formulation Thiram 80 WG and juvenile fishes in a static water regime, exhibited NOECs (42 d) of 0.02 and 0.012 mg a.i./L (nominal) for mortality and growth parameters, respectively.
