Description of key information

Two studies based on the OECD 117 test guideline were evaluated. The test substance eluted as 4 peaks and the mean log Pow for the largest peak (C4) was 5.61. The mean log Pow value for TPP is 3.85 and the log Pow values for C8 and C12 are higher than 6.5.

Two studies, one with 3 G FF and one with 3.5 G FF as test substance, were evaluated for the endpoint partition coefficient (Schutt and Nixon 2012a (K1); b (K1)). Both studies were based on the OECD 117 test guideline “Partition coefficient (n-octanol/water), HPLC method”.

 

3 G FF is a multi-constituent substance comprised of triphenyl phosphates with a variable number (0-3) of para-substituted tert-butyl groups with the following composition: respectively 4, 76, 17 and 1.5 % for 0 (triphenyl phosphate (TPP)), 1 (C4), 2 (C8) and 3 (C12) para-substituted tert-butyl groups.

3.5 G FF differs from 3 G FF in the composition of the para-substituted tert-butyl groups: respectively 2, 82, 15 and 0.7 % for 0 (TPP), 1 (C4), 2 (C8) and 3 (C12) para-substituted tert-butyl groups.

 

In both studies (Schutt and Nixon 2012a; b), the test substance eluted as four discrete peaks. The mean log Pow and percent area for each of the four peaks for 3 G FF and 3.5 G FF are presented in the table below. The mean log Pow for the largest peak, according to percent area, for respectively 3 G FF and 3.5 G FF was 5.61±0.0001 log units (N = 3) and 5.61±0.002 log units (N = 3).
