Short-term toxicity to fish:

Short-term toxicity of 1,5 -naphthylene diisocyanate to fish (Danio rerio) was determined according to EU method C.1 which is in most parts equivalent to OECD 203 and is given as 96 hour-LL50 > 100 mg/L (LL = Lethal Loading), related to nominal concentrations (Bayer Industry Services, 2005).

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

Short-term toxictiy of 1,5 -naphthylene diisocyanate to invertebrates (Dapnia magna) was determined according to EU method C.2 which is in most parts equivalent to OECD 202 and is given as 48 hours-EL50 > 100 mg/L (EL = Effective Loading), related to nominal concentrations (Bayer Industry Services, 2005).

Toxicity to algae and cyanobacteria:

Toxicity of1,5-naphthalene diisocyanateto aquatic algae(Desmodesmus subspicatus) was determined according to EU method C.3 which is in most parts equivalent to OECD 203 as is given as 72 hour-ErC50 = 8.74 mg/L, related to geometric meanmeasured concentrations. 72 hour-EC10, based on growth rate,is given as 0.512 mg/L (Bayer Industry Services, 2006)

Toxicity to microorganisms:

Toxicity of 1,5 -naphthalene diisocyanate to microorganisms was determined with activated sludge according to Directive 88/302/EEC which is in most parts equivalent to OECD 209 and is given as 3 hour-EC50 > 10,000 mg/L, related to nominal concentration (Bayer Industry Services 2005).

As the parent compound1,5-naphthylene diisocyanate hydrolyses to the main hydrolysis product 1,5-naphthylene diamine

within less than 1 hour the parent compound is factually non-existent under environmental or laboratory conditions in aquatic media.
