Conclusion on classification

Acute toxicity tests with catechol on fish and invertebrates resulted in L/EC50 values ranging from 1 to 10 mg/L. However, the results of ready biodegradation studies show that catechol is readily biodegradable. Furthermore, this substance presents a low potential for bioaccumulation considering the partition coefficients reported in the litterature. As a consequence, catechol is not classified regarding its environmental impacts, neither under the criteria of Directive 67/548/EEC, nor under those of Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008.
