Description of key information

Supporting studies: results from company data leading to the conclusion that sodium trichloroacetate is strongly hygroscopic and its combustion at 900°C gives phosgene in traces of 1 mg/g sodium trichloroacetate. Under smouldering fire conditions at 600°C, 20 mg phosgene/g sodium trichloroacetate is formed.

Hygroscopicity: With a thermogravimetric analysis, it has been observed that sodium trichloroacetate is strongly hygroscopic.

Combustion: Simulating a real fire, combustion at 900°C gave phosgene in traces of 1 mg/g sodium trichloroacetate. Under smouldering fire conditions at 600°C, 20 mg phosgene/g sodium trichloroacetate was formed.
