Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media : Water spray

Foam

Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Unsuitable extinguishing media : High volume water jet

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Specific hazards during firefighting : Risk of dust explosion.

On combustion, toxic gases are released.

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters :  In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Personal protective equipment comprising: suitable protective gloves, safety goggles and protective clothing

Further information : Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Remove all sources of ignition.

Do not breathe dust.

Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes.

Personal protective equipment

Wear suitable protective clothing.

Respirator with a particle filter (EN 143)

Tightly fitting safety goggles

Wear suitable gloves.

Stop leak if safe to do so.

Only qualified personnel equipped with suitable protective equipment may intervene

Environmental precautions : Dam up.

Do not let product enter drains.

Methods for Cleaning or Taking Up

Prohibition : As far as possible, do NOT spray packaging which has been damaged or overturned with water.

Recovery : Contain spillage, and then collect with an electrically protected vacuum cleaner or by wet-brushing and place in container for disposal according to local regulations.

Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.

Decontamination/cleaning : Wash off with plenty of water.

Recover the cleaning water for subsequent disposal.

Disposal :Dispose of contents/ container to an approved waste disposal plant.

Additional advice :  Forms slippery/greasy layers with water.

Handling and storage

Handling

Technical measures : Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms.

Provide adequate ventilation

Earth the equipment.

Advice on safe handling and usage : Prevent the build-up of electrostatic charge.

Avoid dust formation.

Keep away from fire, sparks and heated surfaces.

Routine housekeeping should be instituted to ensure that dusts do not accumulate on surfaces.

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Storage

Technical Measures for storage : Take all necessary measures to avoid accidental discharge of products into drains and waterways due to the rupture of containers or transfer systems.

Storage conditions

Recommended : Stable under normal conditions.

Keep in a well-ventilated place.

Protect from moisture.

Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

Keep away from incompatible materials to be indicated by the manufacturer

Store in original container.

Incompatible products : Do not mix with incompatible materials.

Control measures

Engineering measures :Effective exhaust ventilation system

Extract at emission point.

Facilities and equipment easily cleanable

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection : In case of liberation of fibres or dust : Respirator with a particle filter (EN 143)

Hand protection : Where there is a risk of contact with hands, use appropriate gloves

The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it.

Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion, and the contact time.

Gloves must be inspected prior to use. Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough.

Eye protection : Tightly fitting safety goggles

Skin and body protection : Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.

Choose body protection according to the amount and concentration of the dangerous substance at the work place.

Hygiene measures : Emergency equipment immediately accessible, with instructions for use.

Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location.

Use clean, well-maintained personal protection equipment.

When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday.

Regular cleaning of equipment, work area and clothing.

Protective measures : The protective equipment must be selected in accordance with current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of the protective equipment.

Selection of appropriate personal protective equipment should be based on an evaluation of the performance characteristics of the protective equipment

relative to the task(s) to be performed, conditions present, duration of use, and the potential hazards and/or risks that may occur during use.

General advice : Dam up.

Do not let product enter drains.
