Isocyanates are known to rapidly hydrolyse under formation of the corresponding amine as well as solid polyurea compounds. The insoluble inert polyurea is not assumed to cause environmental hazards due to reduced uptake of high molecular mass compounds. For a strucutre anaologe aromatic isocyanate (1-chloro-4-isocyanatobenzene, CAS number: 104-12-1, EC number 203-176-9) half life of hydrolysis at pH 7 (25 °C) was determined to be 7.3 h.
