Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The melting point of Olaflur was evaluated to be 12.7 °C i.e. 285.85 K, the freezing point to be 9.3 °C i.e. 282.45, respectively, using differential thermal analysis.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
12.7 °C

Additional information

The melting point was determined by differential thermal analysis. Samples of the test item and of a reference material are subjected to the same controlled temperature programme. When the test substance undergoes a phase-transition, the corresponding change of enthalpy gives an endothermic (melting) or exothermic (freezing) departure from the base line of the temperature record. During the cooling phase only one exothermal event was measured. The temperature of the peak was 9.3 °C (282.45 K) and the freezing enthalpy was - 23.8 kJ/kg. During the heating phase only one endothermal signal was measured with a peak temperature of 16.1 °C. The melting enthalpy was 24.1 kJ/kg. This means that the freezing process is reversible. The melting point of the test item is therefore the average temperature and is of 12.7 °C (285.85 K).
