Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No experimental data evaluating the toxicity to soil arthropods is available for 2-ethylhexyl benzoate (CAS No. 5444-75-4). Only negligible releases into surface waters from sewage treatment plants are expected to take place due to: a) the ready biodegradability and b) the high adsorption properties of this substance, resulting in an effective removal in sewage treatment plants. Consequently indirect exposure to soil is likely to be limited. If direct exposure takes place, the substance will again be rapidly degraded until ultimate biodegradation. Furthermore, the substance is not toxic to aquatic organisms up to the limit of water solubility and soil macroorganisms up to 555.6 mg/kgdw. Based on the available information, toxicity to soil arthropods is not expected to be of concern.

Additional information

No experimental data evaluating the toxicity to soil macroorganisms is available for 2-ethylhexyl benzoate (CAS No. 5444-75-4). For terrestrial organisms studies are available on three trophic levels and a PNEC has been derived based on the lowest NOEC found. In the risk assessment the soil concentrations were shown to be far below the PNEC value with RCR values below 0.01.
