Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The molecule does not contain fluorine or chlorine, and only contains oxygen atoms bonded to carbon. Comparison of the functional groups listed in the GIRCSA, Chapter R.7a, May 2008, Table R.7.1-29, with the chemical structure indicates no functional groups which have been associated with oxidising properties. Consequently, the substance is expected not to have oxidising properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
no

Additional information

The molecule does not contain fluorine or chlorine, and only contains oxygen atoms bonded to carbon. Comparison of the functional groups listed in the GIRCSA, Chapter R.7a, May 2008, Table R.7.1-29, with the chemical structure indicates no functional groups which have been associated with oxidising properties. As a result, and according to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex VII, 7.13, column 2, testing for this endpoint is considered to be unnecessary based on the chemical structure.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on chemical structure (molecule is organic, contains oxygen that are NOT bonded to nitrogen or oxygen), L-Menthol is predicted incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials.

As a consequence and according to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VII, 7.13, Column 2, testing for oxidising properties is considered unnecessary and the substance is not classifiable for oxidising properties in line with CLP and DSD.
