The requirement for sediment toxicity data has been waived on the basis that further testing to sediment organisms is not necessary according to the chemical safety assessment. Potassium formate is readily biodegradable, is not expected to adsorb to solid soil phase (log Koc < 3) and does not accumulate significantly in organisms (log Kow < 3). Results from the pelagic studies indicate that potassium formate is acutely not harmful. A long-term study with D. magna revealed no chronic toxicity. The equilibrium partitioning method can be used to assess the hazard for sediment organisms and further sediment toxicity studies are scientifically unjustified.
