Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Following an OECD 201 algal inhibition test the 72-hour EC50 for growth rate was determined to be 12 mg/l and the 72-hour NOEC was 2.7 mg/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
12 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
2.7 mg/L

Additional information

A 72 -hour OECD 201 algal inhibition test was carried out using the test substance, hexyl acetate.

Following a range-finding test,Pseudokirchneriella subcapitatawas exposed to the test substance at initial measured concentrations of 1.2, 4.3, 16, 51 and 166 mg/l for 72 hours. Six replicate flasks were used for the control and three flasks were used per test concentration. Flasks were constantly shaken for 72 hours under constant illumination (approximately 7000 lux) at a temperature of 24 ± 1 °C. Samples for analysis by gas chromatography were taken at 0, 24, 48 and 72 hours.

The 72-hour EC50 based on growth rate was determined to be 12 mg/l (time-weighted mean). The 72-hour NOEC based on growth rate was determined to be 2.7 mg/l (time-weighted mean).
