First-aid measures

General advice: Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. including shoes. Under the shower.

Inhalation:

Move patient from contaminated area to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. Take victim immediately to hospital.

Skin contact:

Wash immediately, abundantly and thoroughly with water. Consult a doctor quickly. In case of extensive burns: Take victim immediately to hospital.

Eye contact:

Wash open eyes immediately, abundantly and thoroughly for at least 15 minutes. Consult an ophthalmologist immediately..

Ingestion:

If the subject is unconscious, do not induce vomiting If swallowed, rinse mouth with water (only if the person is conscious). Take victim immediately to hospital.

Protection of first-aiders:

For any intervention, wear appropriate breathing apparatus and  chemical resistant protective suit

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: In case of fire involving the product :

- on small fire :  Dry powder, Carbon dioxide (CO2),

- for serious fires :  Water spray (under pressure).

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

- Reacts violently in contact with water, giving off acidic and corrosive products : Boron trifluoride dihydrate complex (acidic and corrosive) which in the presence of excess water hydrolyses in various substances including fluoroboric and boric acids

Hazards of overpressurization.  In containers exposed to heat : explosion risk.

Precautions for fire-fighters: Specific methods:

Cool containers / tanks with water spray. Ensure a system for the rapid emptying of containers. Isolate the area from unecessary and unprotected perons.

Special protective actions for fire-fighters: wear self-contained breathing apparatus and Complete suit protecting against chemicals

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Prohibit contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of vapours. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. In case of leak, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and a complete suit protecting against chemicals.

Environmental precautions:

Suppress gases, fumes and/or dust with water spray jet. Stop the machinery or isolate the defective equipment.

Recover waste water for processing later.

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:

Empty the bottle with a slow flow into a solution of caustic soda and slaked lime Allow an non-return system

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling: Technical measures/Precautions:

Storage and handling precautions applicable to products: Gases under pressure Toxic. Corrosive. Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at machinery. Ventilation with later treatment of fumes by water scrubbing of gases. Provide showers, eye-baths. Provide self-contained breathing apparatus nearby. Provide facilities to capture any vapours. Provide emergency alarm and oxygen recovery nearby. Well ventilate empty vats and tanks before entering.

Safe handling advice:

Purge all equipment with DRY air or nitrogen before introducing the product. Use product only in closed system.

Hygiene measures:When using do not eat or drink.

Wash hands after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Keep in a dry place. Protect from heat. Store away from risks of fire and explosion. Store bottles well secured, protected from impact. Provide an anti-corrosion protected electrical equipment in a bunded area. Design the installation so that each part can be rapidly isolated in case of incident. Design the installation to avoid spreading of possible fumes in case of incident.

Storage temperature: < 50 °C

Packaging material:

Recommended: Spherical containers and steel bottles shade A52 according to AFNOR NF A 36205 standard (ASTM SA 73-8 grade A)

EXPOSURE CONTROLS:

General protective measures:

Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms. Ventilation with later treatment of fumes by water scrubbing of gases.

Frequently monitor and control the working atmosphere

Personal protective equipment:

Respiratory protection:

- Low concentrations or short activity: Full mask. Recommended Filter type: A2B2

- High concentrations or prolonged activity: Self contained Breathing Apparatus

Hand protection: PVC gloves According to permeation index EN 374: 6 (time elapsed > 480 mins)

Eye/face protection: Safety glasses

Skin and body protection:

- Acid resistant clothing., Meraclon suit, Safety shoes

- Intervention at incident: anti-acid diving suit

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid:   Temperatures above 50 °C. Decomposes when moist.

Incompatible materials to avoid:

- Very exothermic reaction with : Water,

-  Reacts violently with : Alkyl nitrates

-  When hot : incandescent reaction with Alkaline metals, Alkaline earth metals (excepting magnesium)

Hazardous decomposition products:
