Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure water reactivity is not to be expected.
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with section 1.5 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The test material did not ignite during the two minutes of direct contact with the hot flame from a gas burner. The test material melted in the presence of the flame.

Interpretation of results:
other: Not highly flammable in accordance with EU criteria
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of this study, it was determined that the test material is not flammable.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test material was evaluated according to EU Method A.10 under GLP conditions.

The test material did not ignite when in direct contact with a hot flame. The test material melted in the presence of the flame.

Under the conditions of this study, it was determined that the test material is not flammable.

Description of key information

Not highly flammable in accordance with EU criteria

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The flammability of the test material was evaluated according to EU Method A.10 under GLP conditions. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

The test material did not ignite when in direct contact with a hot flame. The test material melted in the presence of the flame.

Under the conditions of this study, it was determined that the test material is not flammable.

In accordance with point 1 of REACH Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for pyrophoric properties. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as in the daily use and handling of the test material, during which continuous exposure to air can occur, no spontaneous ignition is observed. The absence of structural alerts furthermore confirms that it is highly unlikely that the test material possesses pyrophoric properties.

In accordance with point 1 of REACH Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for substances or mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as under conditions where the test material is in contact with water, no ignition and/or liberation of flammable gases is observed. The absence of structural alerts furthermore confirms that it is highly unlikely that the test material is flammable in contact with water.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
