First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove from exposure, seek medical attention if necessary.

Symptomatic treatment.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse eyes with running water for at least ten minutes.

Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove any contaminated clothing. Wash the affected area

with water. If irritation develops seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention. Treat symptomatically

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Recommended extinguishing agents: Water spray, foam, dry

powder and carbon dioxide are suitable extinguishing

agents.

Product arising from burning: Products arising from pyrolysis: Products of combustion may

contain carbon and sulphur oxides together with some

hydrogen chloride and soot.

Protective equipment: Protective equipment: Wear a self-contained breathing

apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Sweep up and shovel into waste drums or plastic bags for

disposal

Handling and storage

Handling: Control dust formation in an appropriate manner (eg

engineering controls such as local exhaust ventilation). If

dust is generated, a respirator should be used (eg BS

6016). Extra care should be taken to prevent burns from

contact with hot material.

Storage: Keep away from heat

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery is not economically feasible.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable. No known hazardous effects.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal at an authorised landfill site should be

acceptable.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Recommended method. The substance should be incinerated at

a temperature above 950 deg C. Waste gas scrubbing to

remove sulphur oxides and hydrogen chloride should be used.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance is insoluble in water and is not readily

biodegradable. Material may be recovered from water systems

by filtration.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will not enter the public domain.
