One experimental study is available investigating the long-term toxicity of the test item Chlorophene (CAS 120-32-1) to aquatic invertebrates (Weyers, 2007) according to GLP.

The influence of the test item on the reproduction and survival rate of daphnids was investigated in a 21 days semi-static test. In the study, nominal concentrations in the range 0.0032 to 0.32 mg/L were tested. The mortality, the time of the first production, the number of neonates were compared with corresponding parameters in the controls. The test was performed according to the EEC Methods for Determination of Ecotoxicity, Annex to Directive 97/548/EEC Part C, Method 20 ‘Daphnia magna Reproduction Test’ (2001). Results were based on geometric mean measured concentrations since recovery rates ranged from 60 to 101% of the nominal values in the fresh prepared test media and from 30 to 95% in the aged media. The no-effect concentration for reproduction was 0.0067 mg/L and for mortality ≥0.296 mg/L. The lowest concentration showing toxicity effects on Daphnia reproduction was 0.0254 mg/L. Chlorophene did not show any effect on the reproduction of daphnids up to a concentration of 0.0067 mg/L (NOEC). The LOEC was found to be 0.0254 mg/L.
