Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Information on biodegradation is considered to be neither necessary or relevant for iron trinitrate. As the substance is inorganic salt it will not be degraded biologically. However, it will dissociate to its constituent iron and nitrate ions in the environment. Both ions are ubiquitous in the environment at quantities far greater than that likely to arise from iron trinitrate. It should also be noted that the process of breakdown of nitrate to N2 by denitrifying bacteria in the environment is well characterised, and that iron ions are elemental and cannot be further degraded. As such, testing on ready biodegradability, inherent biodegradability, simulation tests, and identification of degradation products is not scientifically justified or feasible for iron trinitrate.
