Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No additional information was considered necessary to assess the environmental fate and pathways of iron trinitrate. Iron trinitrate is likely to dissociate into iron ions and polyatomic nitrate ions in the environment, which may be incorporated into various complexes. However, iron and nitrate are ubiquitous in the environment in quantities vastly in excess of those likely to arise from iron trinitrate. As such, the contribution of iron trinitrate to environmental levels of iron and nitrate complexes is expected to be minimal.

Further to this, testing on biodegradation is not considered relevant due to the inorganic nature of iron trinitrate and due to the fact that the fate of iron and nitrate in the environment is already well characterised. Testing for bioaccumulation and adsorption/desorption are also deemed unnecessary due to the low estimated log Kow of iron trinitrate (estimated log Kow = 1.26).
