Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on a measured Log Kow of -0.46 (BASF AG, 1988), the substance does not accumulate in organisms.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to the criteria for the identification of bioaccumulative (B) and very bioaccumulative (vB) substances as outlined in Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XIII section 1.2, the assessment of bioaccumulation shall be based on measured data on bioconcentration in aquatic species.

According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006,  Column 2 of Annex IX, section 9.3.2 a study on bioaccumulation in aquatic species, preferably fish, does not need to be conducted if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (for instance a Log Kow ≥3). 1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (CAS 872-50-4) has a measured log Kow -0.46 (@25°C; BASF AG, 1988), indicating the substance to not accumulate in organisms. Thus no study on bioaccumulation in terrestrial organisms is performed.
