First-aid measures

General information:

Take persons to a safe place. Observe self-protection for first aid. Seek medical advice in the

event of contact with this substance.

After inhalation

Keep the patient calm. Protect against loss of body heat. Seek medical advice and clearly

identify substance.

After contact with the skin

Remove contaminated or soaked clothing. Wash off with plenty of water or water and soap

immediately for 10-15 minutes. In serious cases, use emergency shower immediately. Seek medical

advice and clearly identify substance.

After contact with the eyes

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 10-15 minutes. Keep eyelids well open to rinse the

whole eye surface and eyelids with water. Seek medical advice and clearly identify substance.

After swallowing

If conscious, give several small portions of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Seek

medical advice and clearly identify substance.

Advice for the physician

After inhalation: treat as early as possible using cortisone spray.

Fire-fighting measures

General information:

Product does not burn. Use extinguishing measures appropriate to the source of the fire.

Suitable extinguishing media

not applicable

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons

water .

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, combustion products,

resulting gases

Hazardous decomposition products: hydrogen chloride .

Special protective equipment for fire fighting

Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air. Use tightly fitting chemical

protection suit (see section 8).

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions

Wear personal protection equipment (see section 8). Task force: Use tightly fitting chemical

protection suit (see section 8). Keep unprotected persons away. Avoid contact with eyes and

skin. Avoid inhaling mists and vapours. Do not walk through spilled material. Ensure adequate

ventilation.

Environmental precautions

Prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or sewers and soil. Contain any fluid

that runs out using suitable material (e.g. earth). Condense gasses/vapours/mists using a

directed spray of water. Retain contaminated water/extinguishing water. Dispose of in

prescribed marked containers. For large amounts: Close leak if possible without risk.

Methods for cleaning up

Do not flush away with water. For small amounts: Absorb with liquid, mainly acid binding

material and dispose of according to local/state/federal regulation. Cover larger quantities by

near waterless foam and take up in container. Exhaust vapours. Clean up with plenty of water.

Handling and storage

Handling

Precautions for safe handling:

Ensure adequate ventilation. Must be syphoned off in situ. Keep away from incompatible

substances in accordance with section 10.2.

Precautions against fire and explosion:

Cool endangered containers with water.

Storage

Conditions for storage rooms and vessels:

Store under protective gas.

Advice for storage of incompatible materials:

not applicable

Further information for storage:

Protect against moisture. Store in original container only. Keep container tightly closed and

store in a cool, well ventilated place.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure limits

-

Exposure limited and controlled

Exposure in the work place limited and controlled

General protection and hygiene measures:

Do not breathe vapours. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not eat, drink or smoke when

handling. Wash hands at the end of work and before eating. Keep working clothes separately.

Personal protection equipment

Respiratory protection

gas mask filter ABEK . In case of long or strong exposure: positive pressure self contained

breathing apparatus .

Hand protection

protective gloves/ gauntlets (5-layer laminate) made of PE and EVOH (4H) or Butyl & Viton types recommended; nitrile gloves may also be used for short durations. At any sign of decay or chemical permeability

remove gloves immediately and replace. Wear gloves for short periods only < 10 mins.

Eye protection

tight fitting protective goggles . Where there is risk of splashing: protective shield .

Provide work station with eye bathing equipment. Do not wear contact lenses.

Skin protection

apron , protective clothing, face protection, neck protection , acid-proof protective clothing.

Exposure to the environment limited and controlled

Prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or sewers and soil.

Stability and reactivity

General information:

Violent reactions are possible with various chemicals.

Conditions to avoid moisture .

Materials to avoid

proton-active substances . Reacts violently with: water , basic substances , acids , alcohols

and ketones/aldehydes . Reaction causes the formation of: hydrogen chloride and heat .

Hazardous decomposition products

Under the effect of humidity, water and protic agents: hydrogen chloride .

Disposal considerations

Material

Recommendation:

Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a special waste incinerator. Observe

local/state/federal regulations. Ensure special chem./phys. treatment after discussion with the

supplier.

Uncleaned packaging

Recommendation:

Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest, scraped carefully). Containers

may be recycled or re-used. Observe local/state/federal regulations. Uncleaned packaging should

be treated with the same precautions as the material.
