Description of key information

Dechlorane Plus is practically insoluble in water with solubility below 0.167 ng/L. No toxicity to fish (no mortality and no effect on behaviour) was observed in one short-term toxicity study with 96 hours exposure to up to 100 ppm nominal concentrations and two long-term toxicity studies with exposure to nominal 0.1 ppm (analytical 0.069 -0.102 ppm) and nominal 1 ppm (analytical 0.001 - 0.046 ppm) for 30 days.
Studies with other aquatic species were not performed and not deemed appropriate due to the very low water solubility and absence of any toxicological effects reported in publications on environmental monitoring in biota.
Liang et al. in a recent publication (2014) analysed different proteins and showed that some protein concentrations in Chinese sturgeon were altered upon exposure to 1, 10 and 100 mg/kg ww applied by single intraperitoneal injection. 39 of 740 identified proteins were significantly altered in concentration and 27 of those could be identified. Their main functions were associated with oxidative stress, cell proliferation (of Ca2+) and apoptosis, but no clinical signs of toxicity were recorded.
